DescriptionPioneering hip-hop rapper Kool Moe Dee's music career began at Norman Thomas High School in 1978 when he formed The Treacherous Three. He left the band to attend college in New York, where he received his Bachelor's degree in communication. Dee decided to reenter the music scene with a solo career that skyrocketed when he decided to begin writing for other rappers, including the legendary Sugar Hill Gang. In 1987, with the release of his next album, How Ya Like Me Now, he began the most significant portion of his career. He started a rap battle with LL Cool J, and LL fired back with "Jack the Ripper." Moe Dee returned with "Let's Go." LL countered with "To The Break of Dawn." And Moe Dee finished up with "Death Blow." This resulted in one of the most infamous battles in hip-hop history. He became the first rapper to ever perform at the Grammy Awards. Kool Moo Dee wore this Barbara Bates-designed suit in the music video for his 1991 rap song "Death Blow."About the Artist
