DescriptionThough Springsteen is more heralded, no group personifies what became known as the “Jersey Shore Sound” more than Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Their horn-driven, incendiary blend of rock, soul and r&b was wildly influential in the Garden State and the list of musicians who played with Southside Johnny reads like a who’s-who of Jersey luminaries. Most of the E Street Band (including Springsteen himself) cycled through the band, while Steven Van Zandt was a full-fledged member and produced some of their most impactful material. Even Jon Bon Jovi performed with the Jukes in later years. The satin crew jacket on display was owned and won by Southside Johnny himself.
